Goldsmith graduate, Riikka Hyvönen (b. 1982) is a Finnish artist who gained notoriety for creating three-dimensional paintings of women’s bottoms bruised from roller derby, made from plywood, paint, glitter, and leather. One of the few contact sports for women, many players see bruises as badges of honor, or “derby kisses” and Riikka celebrates this in her paintings. She has exhibited at Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Turku Art Museum in Finland, and the London Art Fair, among others.
