An evening supporting The Turing Trust @ Aures London
On the 19th of November, 2021 The Artsphere Global hosted its first in person event supporting The Turing Trust. This charity was set up five years ago by Alan Turing’s great nephew James Turing.
As we all know with the environmental crises we are facing, the world is very inequitable and one of the key things in creating a sustainable future is that every country is equipped to benefit fully from the talents and abilities of its citizens. The Turing Trust supports education in sub-Saharan Africa by reusing computers and improving teacher training using ICT. They also provide skills development in the UK .
Another real benefit of this work is that it reduces waste, the donation of 20 PCs enable 360 students to learn vital IT Skills. This is a remarkable project not only will it improve educational opportunities it also improves the environment because reusing 20 computers, rather than buying new machines, saves 6 tonnes of CO2 emissions which is the equivalent of planting 14 trees.
The Artsphere Global hopes that the money raised will inspire children who benefit from the Turing Trust's work and give them the skills to express their own creativity through machine based learning.
(More updates will be posted here in the coming months!)
‘I am very happy to announce that the donations will enable the Turing Trust to help set up a computer lab in Malawi! They will refurbish 20 PCs, load them with educational software and provide ongoing maintenance and support. This will give the chance for students to develop IT skills which will hopefully lead to future - proof career opportunities. I look forward to sharing this progress with you all in 2022 and thank you again for all your support. The Turing Trust is very grateful and so am I!’
