Amada Cartoons

Amada Cartoons

Amada Cartoons is a cartoonist and satirist born in Mexico City and living and working in New York. Sources say the artist spent her formative years in Miami, Florida, though she denies those allegations. Earning a B.L.A. with a focus in sociology and an M.S. in Computer Science, she refers to her collective degrees as 'computing society.’ An artist by day, and computer scientist by night, of her commercial success as a cartoonist, she notes, “I’m just slinging cartoons to support my dream of becoming a software engineer.”

Amada's work eschews digital mediums in favor of hand-drawn illustrations which she calls artisanal memes. Working with archival ink, acrylic paint, and art markers on printmaking paper, she largely works in limited runs of 10, 20, and 25. Her witty, circular captions are known for curving around the central image. The work is hand-drawn, never printed, and always in limited edition.

Amada has created work for brands like Gucci, The House of Fabergé, TED Conferences, Rolex, Tinder, KIND Bars, Le Relais de l'Entrecôte, Glossier, and Ladurée,though they never asked for it. Her drawings satirize elitist millennial culture, serving as a poignant reminder of social luxuries taken for granted, and making viewers both chuckle and check their privilege. Amada promises her collectors bad prices and denies her art dealer is her mom. You should follow her on Instagram @amada.cartoons for a feed of no fake news, just propaganda.
